Dogs have inherited the instinct to roam, hunt and discover from their living ancestor, the wolf. This means that even dogs that are strongly attached to their owners can give in to their natural instincts at one time or another. And sadly, once your dog runs off, the American Humane Association indicates that there’s only about a 17 percent chance you’ll ever see him or her again.

What Are Wireless Dog Fences?


Wireless dog fences are electric dog containment systems that allow you to create a roaming area for your dog that fully utilizes every part of your yard. With wireless dog fences, you can even create "exclusion zones" to keep your dog away from places you don’t want him or her to go, like swimming pools, large gardens and flower beds.





Wireless dog fences work by giving your dog a gentle correction if he or she ventures too close to the edge of the desired roaming area. The correction can come in the form of an auditory signal or a gentle shock that the dog receives from the preprogrammed collar if he or she tries to leave the roaming area. The correction can be set for one of five correction levels, so you can select the level that is right for your dog. However, the dog does not receive an additional shock when he or she returns to the roaming area, which happens with many other electric fences.





Wireless dog fences are easy to install. You start by mounting the master base and three additional bases, in the four farthest corners of your home (away from any metal objects). Then, use the controller to activate the bases. Now, you are ready to set up the fence boundary. First determine which areas your dog will be allowed access to, including choosing any exclusion zones. Place wireless fence flags 6 feet apart around that outer boundary area. While holding the Controller, walk the desired roaming area recording the location the flags. If you have exclusions zones, you will mark those areas with flags and record them with the controller as well. Next, set up the wireless collar, set the correction to tone only, then test the trigger zone, moving flags if necessary. Finally, fit the wireless dog collar around your dog’s neck. Your set-up is now complete. You are now ready to begin wireless fence training with your dog!
